Free Interactive Webinar: Accessible Documents using Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Thursday, December 6 9:30 am - 12 noon

Please join us for an interactive webinar about simple techniques for creating documents that are accessible and usable by a wide range of users (full description below.) The webinar is sponsored by the SC Assistive Technology Advisory Committee (ATAC), of which Cheryl Wissick and I are members, and other state agencies. The presenter is Matt Polkowsky, the Web Content Coordinator at SC DHEC.

There are three ways you can participate:

1) Wardlaw - Join a group of us in Wardlaw Room 274-N. We will provide computers for you to use or you can bring your own. We will provide the files you’ll use during the event. We will also provide a friendly place to interact with each other about this topic. We have also signed up for the 30 minute post-webinar discussion period.
- To register for the Wardlaw group, just e-mail me at susanq@sc.edu and let me know you’re coming. (We’ll find an additional location if the response outgrows the space.)

2) Thomas Cooper Library - Join others on the USC Columbia Campus in the TCL, Level 3, Multimedia Classroom - They will also provide computers, the files, and the opportunity for interaction among the participants.
- To register for the TCLibrary group, go to http://www.sc.edu/cte/December06.php

3) Individually - Register for the event and participate by yourself - not as much fun, but it might save you a trip to campus!
- To register, go to http://www.sc.edu/scatp/trainings/accessibledocuments12-6-12.html They will contact you with instructions for getting the materials and logging into the session. If you do participate this way, please also e-mail me to let me know that you will be participating. We would like to follow up with related events and information.

No matter how you participate in this event, we are excited to be involved as part of our efforts to revitalize the Center of Excellence in Special Education Technology in the College of Education.

Description: This two-hour Webinar will review the basics of creating accessible documents using Microsoft Office programs Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. We'll explore accessibility issues common to each of these programs, as well as unique situations for each one. You can then participate on your own computer and perform the tasks while listening to the instructor (sample documents will be emailed to you when you confirm your registration). A conference call number will be provided to registrants who want to be part of the half-hour discussion after the presentation (11:30 to noon). This information is useful for anyone who works in Word, Excel or PowerPoint, not just Information Technology professionals. It is useful for both PC and MAC users.

Please let me susanq@sc.edu or Cheryl Wissick cwissick@sc.edu know if you have any questions.
